Portal Finally Coming To Android Nvidia Shield
Portal is finally coming to Android, courtesy of Nvidia. At the 2014 GPU Technology Conference, CEO Jen-Hsun Huang announced that the game is coming to the company’s Shield portable game console. Nvidia tells us it will be a full port of the original PC game for Android, and one created with Valve’s blessing. “Our companies have a strong history working together and we’re looking forward to Portal‘s arrival on Shield,” says Valve’s Doug Lombardi.
While the game will initially be exclusive to devices that include the company’s Tegra processors, as Nvidia is porting the game itself, a representative says that it won’t be technically locked to Tegra chips, and might also come to the greater Android platform.
We don’t know when it will arrive, beyond “coming soon,” or how much it might cost, but it’s good to hear the game will reach mobile devices after all. In 2012, Valve’s legal team shut down a previous project to port the game to Android using the Unity 3D engine. Nvidia is also hoping to bring more PC games to Android in future, thanks to its more compatible Tegra K1 chip.
